Emirates Golf Club – Majlis Course

Where do the world's best golfers tee it up when the DP World Tour comes to Dubai? The Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club. It's been home to the Dubai Desert Classic since the tournament began in 1989, and the course itself holds a place in history. When it opened in 1988, it was the first grass golf course in the Middle East.

The name Majlis is Arabic for "meeting place", and that's fitting for a course that has become one of the region's great golf venues. Karl Litten designed the original layout, and Tim Lobb refined it in 2011. Today it's an 18-hole, par-72 championship golf course that plays 7,301 yards from the black tees. The blues play 6,896 yards, the whites 6,532 and the reds 5,568, so golfers of every level can play the same holes the professionals do. Desert dunes frame the fairways, and seven natural lakes come into play around the course. The par-4 8th is one of its toughest tests, with an uphill drive to a small, well-protected green. The Majlis is ranked among the top five golf courses in the Middle East.

The golf club sits in Al Thanyah Third, in the heart of New Dubai, with the city skyline as a backdrop. Its facilities are among the most complete of any golf club in the UAE: a Trackman driving range, practice areas, the Peter Cowen Academy, a 9-hole Par 3 Academy course, a golf simulator and teaching professionals. There are six restaurants and cafés, including carine and Jones the Grocer, along with a spa, a fitness centre, padel and tennis. A second championship layout, the Faldo Course, sits right next door.
