About The Els Club Teluk Datai
Tucked into the rainforest on the northwestern tip of Langkawi, The Els Club Teluk Datai is an 18-hole, par-72 resort course and one of the best-known places to play on the island. Opened in 1992 and previously known as Datai Bay Golf Club, the layout now carries the Els Club name, and Golfasian credits its design to Ernie Els.
From the black tees the course stretches to 6,760 yards, with Silver, Copper and Jade tees bringing it down to a comfortable length for mid-handicappers and beginners. The fairways thread through tropical forest, and the setting places the Andaman Sea and the Mat Cincang mountain range in view on several holes, which is a big part of why the course is so often described as one of Malaysia's most scenic.
The practice set-up is extensive for a resort course. There is a driving range, practice bunkers, chipping areas, a putting green and even indoor practice facilities, and the Els Performance Golf Academy offers instruction with teaching professionals. Carts with GPS, caddies and rental clubs are available, and the clubhouse has a lounge, restaurant, bar and meeting space. GolfPass notes peak play from March to June and September to November, though golf is on offer year-round.
