Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club

Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club in Miri opened in 2005 and describes itself as Sarawak's leading golf resort. Located close to Miri city in northern Sarawak, it offers 36 holes across two par-72 courses, each made by pairing two named nines, with rainforest views from the fairways.

The Miri-City Course combines the Miri and City nines and was designed by Douglas Nickels of the Nickels Golf Group. From the gold tees it reaches about 6,803 metres, with a rating of 75.7 and a slope of 135, while five sets of tees bring it down to comfortable lengths for most players. Tree-lined fairways, man-made lakes and strategically placed bunkers shape the round, and water comes into play on several holes. Hole 6, a par 5 of about 528 yards, is the stroke index 1. The course is described as a genuine test for single-digit handicappers and social golfers alike.

The Adong-Liku Course pairs the Adong and Liku nines and measures about 6,701 yards from the black tees, with two balanced nines of 3,349 and 3,352 yards, each at par 36. Strategic bunkering is woven into the tropical landscape, and golfers often comment on the large greens with clever humps and hollows, which make approach play and putting especially important.

Fairways at Eastwood Valley are seashore paspalum, and greens are fast Bermuda Tifdwarf with varied contours. Golf carts, a driving range, a bunker practice area and putting greens are available, along with a golf school and teaching professionals. The clubhouse has a restaurant and bar, banquet facilities and views over the course, and the resort adds a swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, billiards and a fitness centre. A dress code applies.
