About Keningau Golf & Country Club
Keningau Golf & Country Club is an established 18-hole, par-72 parkland course on the outskirts of Keningau in Sabah's interior. Dating from 1966, it is credited to architect Jim Rajaratnam and sits in the Crocker Range area at an altitude of more than 1,000 feet, where the air is noticeably cooler than on the coast.
The course measures a little over 6,000 metres from the back tees, with a ladies' tee at around 5,276 metres. Its rolling setting uses creeks and ponds, and the property is lined with mature trees including pines, angsana, asoka, banyan and flame of the forest. The club also has an interesting chapter in its history: Vijay Singh served as the resident professional from 1985 to 1987, and modifications were made to the course during that period to add difficulty.
Golf carts and caddies are available, along with a driving range, putting green and a golf academy with a teaching professional. The dress code is casual. As a country club, it also offers a lounge and snack facilities, swimming, billiards, tennis, squash and a fitness centre, making it a community hub for Keningau residents.
Keningau's highland setting makes for relaxed rounds away from the city.
