Ponderosa Golf & Country Club

Ponderosa Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 golf course in Taman Ponderosa, Johor Bahru, about a quarter of an hour from the city centre. The course opened in 1993 and is credited to Max Wexler, with later design work by Ron Fream in 1996.

From the back tees Ponderosa measures about 7,072 yards (6,467 metres), carrying a course rating of 73.2 and a slope of 131, so it is a proper championship-length test despite its suburban setting. Fairways are Zoysia matrella and the greens are Bermuda Tifdwarf. The layout's length rewards good driving, while the multiple tees allow casual golfers to enjoy the course at a comfortable distance.

Practice facilities are well developed, with a driving range, a pitching and chipping area, a putting green and a golf academy with a teaching professional. Carts, pull carts, caddies and rental clubs are available, and walking is permitted. Off the course, the club offers a clubhouse with banquet facilities, a sauna, swimming, a gymnasium, tennis, pickleball, billiards and table tennis, which makes it a genuine country club for members and families.

Being so close to central Johor Bahru, Ponderosa is one of the most accessible full-length courses for city residents, and it also draws golfers crossing over from Singapore.
