About Tioman Island Golf Club
Tioman Island Golf Club at Berjaya Tioman Resort is the only 18-hole course on Pulau Tioman, the island off Pahang's east coast in the South China Sea. The par-71 course measures about 6,058 metres and was built in two stages: Ron Fream designed the original seaview nine in 1989, and Michael Coate added the hillview nine in 1992.
The course combines rugged terrain and tricky slopes with lush forest backdrops and views over the sea. Fairways are narrow, greens are wide and hilly, and numerous bunkers are joined by water hazards including waterfalls, ponds and streams. Coconut palms and rocks line several holes, and some run along the beach, so accuracy matters as much as distance.
There is no driving range, but a short-game practice area is available. The club has a pro shop, golf instruction, club rental, and a bar and restaurant, while the surrounding resort adds a hotel, swimming pool and tennis courts. Although Tioman belongs to Pahang, mail for the resort is routed through Mersing on the Johor mainland, which is also the usual departure point for ferries to the island.
