About Ranau Recreation & Golf Club
Ranau Recreation & Golf Club, also known as Ranau Golf Club and listed on Hole19 as Pasir Putih Golf Club, is a nine-hole, par-36 course about 1 km from Ranau town on the road to Tambunan. The course was built in 1992 by Japanese officers serving with the Mamut Copper Mine, and it has been managed by the Ranau Recreation Club since December 2010.
Played twice as an 18-hole round, the course measures about 5,737 metres from the men's tees and 5,053 metres for ladies, with slope ratings of 128 and 118 respectively. The fairways roll across the hillside and Mount Kinabalu provides a backdrop throughout. Players note that the greens are notoriously difficult to read and that the course demands accurate shot-making, and some local golfers rate it among the best nine-hole courses in Sabah.
This is a community club rather than a resort, so facilities are simple, but the setting in the Ranau highlands is memorable. It combines well with a visit to Kundasang and Kinabalu Park, and golfers staying in the area can easily fit in a round before or after sightseeing.
