Borneo Golf & Country Club

Borneo Golf & Country Club at Bongawan is Sabah's Jack Nicklaus design, located roughly 70 km south of Kota Kinabalu along the Papar-Beaufort Highway, about an hour's drive from the city. The 18-hole, par-72 championship course sits on a large property on the edge of the South China Sea.

The course is long and demanding. From the championship tees it measures around 6,546 metres (about 7,159 yards), with a course rating of 75.0 and a slope of 137. The design follows a semi-links concept: on the front nine a natural lagoon is used to dramatise forced carries over water, while the back nine is exposed to stiff ocean winds. Strategic bunkering and fast greens complete the challenge, and fairways are Bermuda 419.

Golf carts are included in the green fee, and caddies are available. Practice facilities include a driving range, practice bunker, short-game area and putting greens, with a teaching professional on staff. The country club side offers a restaurant and lounge, banquet facilities, on-site accommodation and a swimming pool, as well as fitness, tennis, squash and billiards. Its distance from the city makes it well suited to a full golf day or an overnight stay.
