About Penang Golf Club
Penang Golf Club is the only championship 18-hole golf course on Penang Island. Formerly known as Bukit Jambul Country Club, it sits on the slopes of Bukit Jambul in Bayan Lepas, close to the island's airport and the Bayan Baru township it was built to serve.
The par-72 course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in 1984, with a redesign in 1992. It measures a little over 5,800 metres from the blue tees, which is not long by modern standards, but the hillside setting brings rolling fairways and plenty of sloping lies, and the blue tees carry a slope rating of 134. Fairways and tees are Bermuda grass and the Tifdwarf greens are kept fast. The club was rebranded as Penang Golf Club in 2010.
Facilities are extensive for an island club. The driving range is open until late in the evening, and there is a practice bunker, chipping area, putting green and a golf academy with teaching pros. Carts, caddies and rental clubs are available. Off the course there is a clubhouse with restaurants and a golfers' terrace, plus banquet facilities, swimming, billiards and squash. Collared shirts with sleeves are required and metal spikes are not allowed.
As the island's only full-length course, Penang Golf Club is where many local players meet up. On CoGolfers, you can host golf games at Penang Golf Club and invite the CoGolfers community, or join golf games already posted by golfers in Bayan Lepas and George Town.
