About Merapi Golf Club
Merapi Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 semi-private course at the foot of Mount Merapi in Sleman, designed jointly by Michael Wolveridge, Ross Perrett and Peter Thomson, all in 1994. The layout measures 6,488 meters from the black tees, with a demanding course rating of 74.9 and a slope of 144, among the tougher tests in the Yogyakarta region.
Playing in the shadow of one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes gives this course a dramatic backdrop unlike any other in the Yogyakarta area. Tufway 419 grass fairways and Evergreen grass greens provide firm, consistent playing conditions across the demanding layout, and the volcanic soil beneath the course drains unusually well even after heavy rain.
Golf carts and caddies are included in the green fee, and a teaching professional and putting green are available for those working on their game. A restaurant and meeting facilities round out the clubhouse for group visits, with several dining tables offering a direct view of the volcano.
A course at the foot of an active volcano is a genuinely memorable golf experience. Few golf backdrops in Indonesia are as striking, making this a course CoGolfers members often recommend to visiting friends.
