About Rimba Irian Golf Club
Rimba Irian Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 woodland resort course in Kuala Kencana, a planned town built for the Freeport mining operation in Mimika Regency, Papua. Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and opened in 1996, the layout measures 6,787 yards from the back tees, or 6,198 meters from the champion tees, with a course rating of 75.7 and a slope of 134, figures that place it among the more demanding courses anywhere in eastern Indonesia.
A Coore and Crenshaw design is a notable find in one of Indonesia's most remote provinces, bringing genuine architectural pedigree to the dense Papuan rainforest surrounding the purpose-built town of Kuala Kencana. The woodland setting, carved directly from the surrounding jungle, gives the course a distinctly different character from Indonesia's more developed golf regions on Java and Bali.
Golf carts, a driving range, a golf school academy and teaching professionals are all available for golfers of any level, along with spa services for relaxing after a demanding round in Papua's tropical heat. Walking is permitted for those who prefer it.
A Coore and Crenshaw design deep in Papua is one of Indonesia's most unexpected golf finds. With CoGolfers, golfers in the Mimika area can connect with golfers near you, host golf games, or join golf games other CoGolfers members have arranged. Find golf partners for a round in this remote rainforest setting, build golf groups around this course, and enjoy social golf and golf networking whenever you want to play golf with other golfers in Papua.
